Social Media Day 2016!

Back in 2010 the popular website Mashable launched Social Media Day “as a way to recognize and celebrate social media’s impact on global communication. While every day is essentially Social Media Day, June 30th, 2016 marks the seventh-annual official global celebration.” Users of the website meet up around the world to celebrate the friendships and boost the networking that they have already succeeded with using the various social media platforms available.
Social media has a very predominant place in modern society. Whether it be Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Vine, Flickr, Tumblr, SnapChat, YouTube, social media is everywhere. Celebrities, businesses, YouTubers, Restaurants, bars, cafes, clothes stores, makeup artists, sports teams, players, artists, authors… Everyone uses and utilises social media. If you’re just a light user perhaps you follow a few celebrities on Twitter or check in with friends from time to time on Facebook. Maybe you’re mad on social media, linking every account into one platform so you can talk across several at one time. Whatever you use social media for, there’s no denying that the global reach it has is quite amazing. Victims of terrorist attacks can alert their families via Facebook thanks to the safety feature rolled out this year – if that’s the only possible way of communication then so be it, it’s best to know than to be left wondering if your loved ones are okay. Calls for support during floods over the New Year proved fruitful, and people have tracked long lost family members down too using social media.  That’s just the start of it; social media certainly has outdone itself over the years when it comes to ways of communicating and sharing.
There are downsides of course, but there are ways around those. Blocking, reporting, muting; the police can be alerted too if these don’t have any effect. Social media is meant to be good, not harmful. Enjoy it safely and responsibly! We love social media here, it’s a big part of SEO and we love that we can promote our clients using the various platforms!
